In this post you’ll learn the answers for the questions: what is a growth mindset? and why does it matter?
The way one thinks about the adversities one faces in life and business, can determine how far one can go on those areas respectively. Competition in business just like in war is more of a battle of minds than that of resources. We all have story or two of giants with vast resources and advantage, getting defeated by dwarfs. One way of thinking that happens to be getting more and more respect and attention on all arenas of life is the growth mindset.
What is a growth mindset?
A growth mindset is in simple terms the mindset that reflects a bias towards the thinking of improvement and growth over time, over the modes of thinking that go along with the beliefs that life is already set in stone. As the name implies, a person with a growth mindset thinks more about how much he can grow/improve, and less about the talents he was or was not born with. The idea behind it is that the way we are born is random, but the way our life goes after that is on our hands.
Why does it matter?
The reason why you might want to adhere to a growth mindset if you didn’t already, is that with the growth mindset, the potential for growth in any area of life tends to be unlimited. When one thinks about ways to become smarter, stronger and more resourceful, this attitude causes not only a personal improvement, but also improvements in other areas of life. A writer, or a programmer who believes that there are still new things to learn out there and that he can learn anything he wants, will do so, and a result of that will be an increase in the skill level, which will also improve his quality of work.
Pay close attention to the way you think about things such as adversity and talent, and make an effort to change it, if you find that you tend to believe that life is set in stone. If you don’t believe me, try it for a while and compare the results 🙂
It is all about knowledge and experience 😉
